Donna Murphy - Abstract Nature Photography - Photographs of Tree Bark

Biography and Gallery Exhibit - Meet the Artist on January 14th from 11 am to 3 pm in the Visitor Center

Donna Murphy’s photographs of tree bark are best described by John Ruskin’s quote, “Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty, if only we have the eyes to see them.” Donna's abstract images capture the extraordinary in the ordinary She shares a world that most of us take for granted, or never knew existed.

Donna studied photography at School of Visual Arts in New York. Her love of photography lead her to a pursue a career in publishing. For more than 30 years, Donna has worked on both sides of the camera; shooting, editing, and art directing for regional and national magazines and books. In 2005, she won the prestigious Ozzie Award for Best Design of La Vie Claire magazine.

In 2010, Donna’s focus shifted soley to book publishing. Recent titles she has designed and produced include Paul Arsenault: My Journey as a Painter by Paul Arsenault; Naples Beach Homes by Robert & Carole Leher; and Artistry in Chocolate by Norman Love. 

There is no doubt that Murphy’s graphic design background played an important role in the creation of her Tree Bark Series which includes hundreds of abstract details that can be organized in infinite combinations. The majority of the images in this series were shot in South Carolina, South Florida, and Naples, where she resides.
