Murray Barnhart, Corkscrew Volunteer Naturalist and Live Snake Ambassador, will talk to visitors about these intriguing creatures in the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary Blair Audubon Visitor Center.

Meet and greet one of our ambassador snakes and learn about the importance of snakes in the environment, including their role in the Sanctuary’s habitats. For those adventurous visitors, you will be able to see these snakes up close and even get a chance to safely touch them while they are handled by our trained docents.

Corkscrew has several snakes, baby alligators, and other creatures that are used for education purposes to teach about these creatures while enabling participants to look at their environment with a holistic view. Important concepts such as habitat, interdependence and adaptations are reinforced throughout the program.

Location:  Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary's  Discovery Center, in the Blair Audubon Visitor Center.

Come meet 'Candy Corn', our native Eastern Corn Snake (Pantherophis guttatus) ​which is a North American species of rat snake that subdues its small prey by constriction. It is found throughout the southeastern and central United States. Their docile nature, reluctance to bite, moderate adult size, attractive pattern, and comparatively simple care make them popular pet snakes. Though superficially resembling the venomous copperhead and often killed as a result of this mistaken identity, corn snakes are harmless and beneficial to humans.
