While rainfall at the Sanctuary in May 2020 was typical, the annual rainfall total from June 2019 – May 2020 was the fourth-lowest on record. At the beginning of Water Year 2021, the onset of the rainy season has already begun to fill the swamp. 

What is aquatic fauna doing now? Fish had been isolated in deep depressions but as water levels rise, they are dispersing and beginning to reproduce. Wading birds are beginning to return as summer rain continues.
