Early Bird Walk for Members a Success

On July 24 we hosted the first of four annual events just for members.

On Saturday, July 24, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary hosted the first of four annual, members-only engagement events -- an early bird walk. This event centered around the theme of creating bird-friendly communities by planting native species that attract pollinators and birds.

Public Programs Director Sally Stein, a Florida Master Naturalist instructor, kicked off the morning with updates from the Sanctuary and was followed by the volunteer gardener team who shared details about the new Painted Bunting native plant garden. Members then hit the boardwalk to explore the Corkscrew Learning Ampitheater and Sanctuary for Students (CLASS) Loop trail, which is normally closed to the public.

In addition to learning about bird-friendly communities, one lucky group of members got to see three playful otters on the boardwalk as well as a barred owl. A good time was had by all and we look forward to hosting our next member event in the fall/winter season.
