Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is inviting all ages for a free visit on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Natural Landmark Program. On May 18, 1962, Secretary of the Interior Stewart Udall established this program that recognizes outstanding and remarkable natural sites like Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, which was designated in 1964.

Come and explore the 2.25 mile-boardwalk that serves as the gateway to a gentle, pristine wilderness, with giant cypress trees over 500 years old. Mark your calendars, as tickets will become available on May 1. Online tickets are required. Last admission is at 1:00 p.m.
Visitors can immerse themselves in old Florida wilderness on the boardwalk as it meanders through pine flatwood, wet prairie, marshes, and the largest old-growth bald cypress forest in North America. The Sanctuary is also home to hundreds of alligators, otters, white-tailed deer, red-bellied turtles, and a wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, and raptors.
Join an Audubon naturalist for one of our 30-minute programs offered during the day in the patio area behind the Visitor Center:
- 10 a.m. – Come and meet the Sanctuary’s baby ambassador alligator, Chirp. Learn about the importance of alligators and why they are a keystone species.
- Noon – Come see and learn about Candy Corn, the Sanctuary’s resident red rat snake, as well as other local snake species.
After the boardwalk, have a peek inside the Blair Audubon Center Nature Store or Café to buy a souvenir or grab a snack and beverage.
