Sanctuary Volunteers Recognized During Annual Event

From interpreting the sights and sounds of the swamp to maintaining our precious boardwalk, so much of what we do would not be possible without our team of dedicated volunteers. In late March, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary hosted its annual volunteer recognition event, Connecting People with Nature, at the Blair Visitor Center.  The event was sponsored by Panther Island Mitigation Bank.

Volunteers enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and great company. The featured talk by Naples Zoo Director of Conservation Tim Tetzlaff, son of Naples icon “Jungle Larry,” was filled with inspirational messages, fascinating stories, and a dash of good humor. Several stand-out volunteers were recognized for reaching service-hour milestones and one volunteer received the prestigious Volunteer Impact Award.

All volunteers received their annual pin, this year featuring a Black-bellied Whistling Duck designed by C. Liston Communications.
