Insects
Insects are everywhere! Their diversity is amazing, and new insects are still being found. They serve many important roles such as pollinators, decomposers, and food for other animals. They are even harvested and consumed in many human cultures. Despite the few species that are problematic (tics, mosquitoes, deer flies, etc.), many more insects are beneficial and quite beautiful.
Some species found on Corkscrew include: eyed click beetle, long-horned beetle, leaf-footed bug, green stink bug, velvet ant, bumble bee, carpenter bee, zebra longwing butterfly, gulf fritillary butterfly, giant sphinx moth, Carolina mantid, green lacewing, Halloween pennant dragonfly, great pondhawk dragonfly, eastern lubber grasshopper, and Florida walkingstick are just a few.
